Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) at Pacific West Academy

Hi, I’m Johnny BS. I’m one of the instructors here at PWA. Today is the culminating event for our TECC course. What they’ll be doing is taking the skills that they’ve learned over the past couple days and putting them to a test in our so-called kill house. For all of our different patients, each patient has a different injury. They’ll be using what they’ve learned to treat the casualty that they have. One of the environments that we have for our students here is a nightclub environment. Sensory deprivation is a huge deal in this strobe lights, low light situation. The nightclub is a very chaotic place to be, especially if there’s an active shooter there. Basically our way of thinking is that if you’re able to treat your patient in a timely manner in this type of situation, then you’ll be able to treat them in a less chaotic situation.
